Vintage Hausa Multi-Colored Coiled Basket - 9.5" Diam. X 6" H

Traditional weaving techniques were used to make this basket from the Hausa peoples. This coiled basket is made from various types of grasses and is constructed with a smooth exterior with the interior being rougher in finish. This piece has a dark buff-colored background that also includes muted, well defined geometric 'color blocked' design patterns in black, red and green.

While the purpose for the piece was utilitarian, the intricate designs give it artistic value. It is symmetrical, edges are in tact and would be perfect for Southwestern, Mid-Century, Boho or Coastal Modern Design interiors.
