Vintage Hausa Gathering Basket Tray - 11.25" Diam. X 3" H

Traditional weaving techniques were used to make this basket from the Hausa peoples of Nigeria. This coiled gathering basket tray is made from various types of grasses and is constructed with a smooth interior and the exterior being rougher in finish. This piece has a dark buff-colored background with black, green, red and gold accents. It also features geometric patterns, figures and stripes.

While the purpose for the piece was utilitarian, the intricate designs give it artistic value. It is symmetrical, edges are in tact, and would be perfect for Southwestern, Mid-Century, Boho or Coastal Modern Design interiors.
