Showcasing our taste of Día de los Muertos folk art
September 21 2024 – Brett Brown
This Halloween, bring art into your home from our collection of Day of the Dead-inspired folk art. From table top displays, to wall hangings and more, celebrate this holiday with a taste of art.
Mexican ceramic figures, Peruvian retablos and even a paper-mache devil... folk art inspired by Dia de los Muertos is colorful, deeply meaningful and full of (the after) life. Our collection of one-of-a-kind pieces features notable artists including:
-
The Ortega family, including Gerardo from the state of Jalisco, Mexico, with their brightly painted figures and pieces such.
-
Craftspeople from Ocumicho, Mexico who specialize in clay figures including devils, mermaids, saints, sun gods, and drunks.
-
Nicario Jiménez, an internationally renowned artist from Ayacucho, Peru, whose work has been exhibited across the U.S.
Our paper mache devil is a vintage example of cartonería, which the Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico recently exhibited.
