Baule Hand-Painted Colon Sculpture from the Ivory Coast - 15" H

Hand-painted Colonial sculpted seated figure wearing a robe with the lower portion depicting a semi-closed fist and twist form accents. It was the upper portion of a walking stick or "colon figure," painted in bright colors of red, yellow, blue and black, and mounted on a black metal base.

The piece is carved in a naive, folk art style and does not have ritual significance. It would be perfect for a wide range of decor settings from Coastal... to Boho/Bohemian or Eclectic. 

Place of Origin: Ivory Coast/Côte d’Ivoire 

Date of Manufacture: 1950s-1970s 

Condition: Excellent

Wear: Consistent with age. Please refer to pictures.

Carving: 14.5 in. H X 2 in. W (shoulders) and tapers to .75 in. W (base) 

Base: 2 in. W X 3 in. D X .25 in. H
