Finely crafted Ikakalaka, or 'Konda' knife from the Mongo peoples in the northwestern parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The knife has a blackened two-tone finish, a wooden handle with a flared top and bottom, and a patina that is dark brown and flat. The blade has ten pierced holes along the central median, and a small spear like upper point with flared protrusions. Below there are two half-moon protrusions on each side, as well as an abstract diamond like form which mimics the cast iron currencies traditional to the Mongo peoples. Beneath this there are two more half moon shapes and a lower flared portion terminating in the wood handle.

This is a fine example of traditional African weaponry which is also symbolic of high rank within the tribal culture. It is presented on an acrylic base inside a new plexiglass case, and would complement a variety of interiors from Traditional to Tribal and a variety of spaces from a great room to a study or office.

Note: Blade is sharp. Display and handle with caution.
