Pair of hand-carved wooden dolls from the Ewe People of southern Togo and Ghana. The Ewe are known for small wooden statues called "Venavi," associated with twins, whose birth is considered to be a good omen.
Typical features include oval faces with protruding eyes, black pigment on hair and feet. They stand rigid, with arms held away from their bodies, and carved hands pointing straight down.
This pair of fraternal twins has an aged honey-color patina and are mounted on acrylic bases. They would be perfect in a study or office on a bookshelf or side table in any décor.
