Pair of hand-carved wooden dolls from the Ewe People of southern Togo and Ghana. The Ewe are known for small wooden statues called "Venavi," associated with twins, whose birth is considered to be a good omen.
Typical features include oval faces with protruding eyes, black pigment on hair and feet. They stand rigid, with arms held away from their bodies, and carved hands pointing straight down.
This pair of fraternal twins has an aged honey-color patina, has been mounted on new acrylic bases, and would be perfect in a study or office on a bookshelf or side table in any décor.
Place of Origin: Ghana/Togo
Date of Manufacture: mid-20th Century
Condition: Very Good
