Guro/Baule-style hand-carved wooden heddle pulley from West Africa. This area is known for its rich tradition in weaving. This is a representation of a functional piece used on a narrow-band loom which would separate the threads and allow the shuttle to pass through. Pulleys like these were often embellished, thus allowing artists to also showcase their carving skills. These carvings are typically human or animal heads and have no sacred meaning.
This piece is a contemporary example on a custom black wooden base and would be suitable to stand alone or be part of a larger collection. Perfect in a study or office on a bookshelf or side table in any décor. Create a collection - please see our other product listings.
