Two matching hand-painted pieces of Tlaquepaque pottery. The first is a plate and the second is a pot with two handles (olla).
These smooth, glazed pieces feature many different elements. First is the style referred to as "petatillo" due to the intricate decorative crosshatching of thin lines in the background. Second, the images are painted black with a traditional "noche" (night) manner. Lastly, both the plate and pot have depictions of owls (búhos), flowers (flores), trees (árboles) and traditional thatched roof houses (palapas).
The color palate includes white, brown/black and terracotta/red pigments. They are unsigned and painted in the style of the José Bernabe Campechano family.
Pieces in this condition are hard-to-find and would make a great accent in a range of décor styles from Southwestern to Rustic or Boho.
