Contemporary hand-carved wooden figure from the Mumuye Peoples of Nigeria. This piece features short, angled legs, an elongated torso, hands held close to the sides, and an exaggerated protruding navel. Other representative characteristics also include a small head with circular eyes and oversized ears along with lighter pigment found in the carved incisions.
These figures served as guardians, were often made to ensure the personal protection of their individual owners and served as a status symbol within the tribe.
Presented on a new clear acrylic base with a medium brown patina; it would be perfect in a study or office on a bookshelf or side table in any décor.
