Vintage round Ilocano food tray basket/bowl. This woven piece is constructed using two weaving techniques. On the outside of the basket there is a traditional wickerwork pattern. The craftsperson used heavier gauge rattan on the rim of the mouth and the underside to provide stability. The interior is quite unique as it exhibits an intricate closely woven hexagonal pattern making this a truly unique piece of art for a basket collector.
Excellent dark mahogany brown/ebony patina, collected in the Philippines during the 1960s, and acquired from a decorator’s personal collection. This basket would add interest to any décor setting from Japandi, Wabi Sabi or Organic Modern. It has solid construction and could be used either for decorative or storage purposes. It also could be displayed on a wall either as a singular piece or in a grouping.
