Four vintage round Ilocano basket trays/rice bowls. These pieces are made of split rattan in an intricate tightly-woven one-over-two twill pattern. The skin of the rattan is used on the inside to provide a smooth hard surface to contain the food and the rim is composed of two pieces of bamboo for stability.
Excellent dark mahogany brown patina, collected in the Philippines during the 1960s, and acquired from a decorator’s personal collection. These would add interest to any décor setting from Japandi, Wabi Sabi or Organic Modern. They all have solid construction and could be used either for decorative or storage purposes. Display them on a wall as a set or as a part of a larger grouping.
