Zulu Imbenge Telephone Wire Basket from South Africa with Earth Tone Coloration and Swirl Design Measuring 12.5 Inches Diameter by 2.5 Inches Tall

Traditional weaving techniques were used in combination with modern-day material to create this unique piece handcrafted by Zulu weavers from South Africa. Baskets like these are called Imbenge and are hand-woven using both bare and plastic-coated wire. This style originated when Zulu men began weaving baskets from discarded scraps of telephone wire. This fusion of past and present has enabled artisans to maintain their rich traditions while being self-sufficient through this craft.
