Beautifully sculpted, hand carved spear tip from the Tiwi peoples of Australia. This verified piece has a central point, arched mid-section with negative space in center, and is tapered into a shaft. It exhibits Aboriginal ochre and earthen pigments in a traditional style with lines and dots covering the tip. The palette is composed of warm colors ranging from black, chocolate brown, and tobacco red to lighter tones of yellows and creams. Typically these spears are used in the Pukamani Ceremonies to honor the dead. This form is a female spear whereas the asymmetrical spears are considered male.
Excellent vintage condition and presented on an acrylic base which displays all intricately-painted sides. Perfect for a collector of Aboriginal and Oceanic Art. This piece would complement interior settings from California Casual, Warm Minimalist, Mid-Century... to Organic-Inspired or Coastal Modern Design.
