Bamana/Bambara dancers originally used these Chiwara headpieces during ceremonies which occurred during pre-planting and harvesting months to portray humanized antelopes.
This one depicts a male antelope with two curved horns, its body covered with incised decoration along with a dark brown patina. It is a great representation of the more realistic elongated horizontal style of the northern Bamana. This piece rests on a black wooden base and will complement any décor taste from Mid-Century, Warm Minimalism, Japandi... to Wabi Sabi or Coastal Modern Design.
