Beautiful minimalist mid-century wood sculpture of a campesino/farm worker from Jose Pinal (1913-1983). The figure is carrying a large sack with oversized legs and feet, both arms are curved over top of head, and he is wearing a large sun hat. The nature of the carving with the curved lines convey movement of hauling a large basket from a recent harvest.
The wood has a soft honey brown patina with two small repairs on feet. The carving is not signed but has been verified as authentic and is mounted on a new acrylic base. This piece would be perfect on a console table in an entry or great room in a variety of interior settings from Mid-Century... to California Casual or Coastal Modern Design.
