The Ortega family are master figural ceramists with a style of their own including brightly colored Mexican folk art featuring animals, humans and masks.
This ceramic folk art piece is a plaque with 16 wildly colored miniature masks of Tastoanes/Devils/Diablitos. Tastoanes are mysterious characters who are part of a tradition that spans more than a century in their municipality of Tonalá, Mexico. This example features vibrant hues of blue, yellow, green, red, pink and turquoise.
With an integrated loop on the top, it is designed to be wall-mounted and a signature 'Ortega' is on the left hand side. This piece would be a fun addition to interior settings from Folk Art, Southwestern... to Mexican-Inspired or Boho.
