Philippine Ifugao Winnowing Basket

Small, square winnowing basket used to throw grain into the air and catch it while the lighter chaff blows away. Constructed of split bamboo with a rattan rim in a one-over-two twill construction. The skin of the rattan is used on the inside of the tray to provide a smooth hard surface. The rim is composed of one whole rattan on top with two halves of a split rattan just below it. Amazing patina – collected in the Philippines during the 1960s and in excellent condition. Similar items with the same age and level of detail cannot be found. This piece would add interest to any décor whether Traditional, Asian-Inspired, Eclectic or Coastal on a table in a grouping on a wall.
