Doña Rosa Real Mateo (1900−1980) was an artist from San Bartolo Coyotepec, Oaxaca, Mexico. She hand-molded her ceramic pieces and then invented a method of polishing/burnishing the Barro Negro pottery with quartz stones that gave them a unique and distinctive shine.
This vase is perfect for a collector and in excellent condition with a 'gourd-like' round shape. It has a smooth black finish and is signed on the underside 'Doña Rosa Coyotepec Oax Mexico.' Combine it with other Oaxacan Barro Negro pieces from our collection. It would be home in a range of décor styles from Southwestern, Coastal Modern, Boho... to Mid-Century or Spanish Colonial Revival.
