Vintage Philippine Ifugao Winnowing Tray/Large Basket

Large square ligao winnowing tray used as an agricultural method for separating grain from chaff. This shallow basket tray was used to throw grain into the air and catch it while the lighter chaff blows away. Constructed of heavy split bamboo with a rattan rim. The center of the tray is worn from use; thus, making some strips 2 – 3 mm smaller in the center making for unusual graphic interest.

Absolutely amazing patina - collected in the Philippines during the 1960’s and acquired from a decorator’s personal collection. This basket is in excellent condition and would add interest to any décor whether residential, commercial or hospitality from Coastal, Organic Modern, Rustic, to Wabi Sabi or Japandi. It would look great whether on a table or displayed on a wall in a grouping.
