Amazon pottery from the Canelos Quichua culture of eastern Ecuador. Their pottery is made using the coiled method and dates back to the Inca expansion and Spanish colonization. Canelos Quichua pottery is usually intricately designed; however, this piece was used was used for cooking - hence simple design, and blackened smudges due to use.

It is a very primitive example and appears to relate to the cosmology of the Quijos culture who are the ancestors of the Canelos Quichua. The interior sides have askewed shapes with spaced closed circles outlined in black and a very faded orange. The same designs are seen in a circle surrounding a large black X.

This would be a great stand-alone piece for any interior setting from Southwestern, Eclectic... to California Casual or Coastal Modern. Combine it with our other offerings to build a indigenous pottery collection. Custom acrylic display stand included.
