Colonial Philippine Reliquary Figure/Police Officer Sculpture - 16" H

Hand-carved piece of vintage folk art. This naive colonial sculpture is of a police officer who is wearing a uniform with a high peaked cap. He has a large head with a pink face, a large nose and moustache, and a prominent chin. The uniform has several areas of painted patterns and the figure is wearing boots. On the backside, there is a carved out cavity that was possibly used for storage of magical materials or valuables.

This piece is a very decorative and interesting work of colonial art. It is mounted on an acrylic base for display and would look great in a variety of interior settings from Traditional, Americana... to Folk Art or Boho.

Condition: Very Good

Wear: Losses to left arm which is consistent with age. Please refer to pictures.
