200+ year old early Spanish Colonial santo figure/statue of Saint Vincent Ferrer or San Vicente Ferrer (1350 - 1419) from the Philippines in the act of preaching. He was a Dominican missionary who talked often about the Final Judgment of Christ and is known as "the Angel of Judgment" since he warned of the imminence of death and Judgment Day and urged repentance. He is the patron saint of builders, plumbers, fishermen, prisoners, was canonized by Pope Calixtus III in 1455, and his feast day is April 5.
There are many places that pay tribute to him in the Philippines. The St. Vincent Ferrer Parish Church, a neoclassical church established by Dominican missionaries in 1619 in Leganes. The San Vicente Ferrer Church, also known as the Leganes Church, first completed in 1889 with an interior filled with colorful stained glass windows depicting his life including his birth, his baptism, the apparition of the Virgin Mary to him, and his death. The San Vicente Ferrer Seminary, founded in 1869, was the first institution of higher education in Western Visayas. Also, the St. Vincent Ferrer statue in Bayambang, Pangasinan, the tallest bamboo statue in the world.
This piece is carved of wood in the round and retains much of the original pigmentation. His right arm was possibly replaced and raised, originally applied with a pair of wings, one of which is extant. Perfect for a range of interior settings from Traditional, Spanish Colonial, Southwestern... to Eclectic or Religious-Inspired.
