9-pieces of hand-carved Mexican folk art from the 1970s. This is a grouping of unused, well-preserved, decoratively-incised gourds, gourd rattles and hand-carved mezcal cups "jícaras" were handmade by artisans in Tabasco. 

These gourds were collected from the calabash tree once they are ripe and hard. They were then cleaned, sanded and carved with decorative images including geometric patterns, flowers, and animals from armadillos and birds... to coyotes and rabbits. These are from the Mexican state of Tabasco in the southeast part of the country bordered by the Gulf of Mexico to the north, the state of Campeche to the east, Guatemala to the southeast, and the states of Chiapas to the south and Veracruz to the west.

Pieces of this age and condition are hard to find because of their natural material and delicate construction. This grouping would be perfect for a public or private collection and a Mexican Folk Art Collector or settings from Boho, Rustic... to Globally-Inspired or Coastal Modern.
