Antique Iron Bollock Dagger and Sheath with Stand from Northern Europe

Highly collectible 200+ year old Iron Bollock Dagger and Sheath from Northern Europe.  It has a long narrow blade, curled hilt support and spike on upper portion to secure the missing handle. The sheath is of exceptional construction with a rounded base and elongated brass coat of arms embossed on central portion depicting a crown on the upper and lower portions and a coat of arms in center. The brass is well worn with a smooth patina given long use and a brass ring which was used to secure the dagger to a belt is attached.

Bollock daggers were popularized in the Medieval Period around the 14th century and were in continuous use up until the early 19th century. They were attached to a men’s belt and were considered the last line of defense when both sword and knife failed.

This is an interesting example with an exceptional sheath. It was acquired in Peru during the 1950s-1960s and initially believed to be a Spanish Colonial piece. Upon further research, this type of dagger with its distinctive form was verified and believed to originate from a Northern European explorer, most likely Scottish, who had been in Peru.

Included are the blade, sheath and custom acrylic stand. It would complement a variety of interiors from Spanish Revival to Traditional to Southwestern in a variety of spaces from a Moody Great Room to a Study or an Office.
