Antique, ritually used masks of the Dan Peoples are said to represent the spirits of the forest. They were danced for both protection of the village as well as for good fortune during auspicious occasions.

This contemporary example is a well-carved mask depicting the "Deangle," a spirit guide who leads young initiates of a secret society through the forests of the Ivory Coast. The mask is carved with slit, half moon eyes, scarifications on the upper cheeks, a fibre couffure which is braided on each side, a large open mouth, and white paint around the eyes. It is presented on a custom wood and metal black stand.

It is an exceptional work of vintage carving from the Ivory Coast is presented on a custom wood and black metal stand, and would be perfect in a wide range of interior environments from Mid-Century, Boho... to Industrial/Loft or California Casual settings.
