Antique, ritually used masks of the Dan Peoples are said to represent the spirits of the forest. They were danced for both protection of the village as well as for good fortune during auspicious occasions.
This contemporary example has bulging coffee bean eyes, a large open mouth, a broad nose, and is accented with bands of cowry shells and brass bells along the outer rim. The piece is painted with bands of color including black, red and orange, and is presented on a custom stand with a base of smoke grey acrylic.
It is an exceptional work of vintage carving from the Ivory Coast that would be perfect in a wide range of interior environments from an entry to a great room or a study in a Mid-Century, Boho... to Industrial/Loft or a California Casual setting.
