Large hand-painted piece of Tlaquepaque pottery. This unique large, long serving bowl, has a smooth glaze and features many different elements. First, is the style referred to as "petatillo" due to the intricate decorative crosshatching of thin lines in the background. Second, the images are painted black with a traditional "noche" (night) manner. Lastly, there are depictions of deer (ciervos), flowers (flores), trees (árboles) and even traditional thatched roof houses (palapas).
The color palate includes white, brown/black and terracotta/red pigments. Unsigned and painted in the style of the José Bernabe Campechano family.
Large pieces in this shape and condition are hard-to-find and would make a great accent in a commercial space or residential décor settings from Southwestern, Rustic, to Coastal or Mid-Century.
