Two similar hand-painted pieces of Tlaquepaque pottery. Both are decorative plates with one being slightly larger than the other.
These smooth, glazed pieces feature many different elements. First is the style referred to as "petatillo" due to the intricate decorative crosshatching of thin lines in the background. Second, the images are painted black with a traditional "noche" (night) manner. Lastly, there are depictions of deer (ciervos), pigs (cuerdos), flowers (flores), trees (árboles), traditional thatched roof houses (palapas) and even an armadillo.
The color palate includes white, brown/black and terracotta/red pigments. They have holes incorporated on the backside for hanging on a wall. Both are unsigned and painted in the style of the José Bernabe Campechano family.
Pieces in this condition are hard-to-find and would make a great accent in a commercial space or residential décor settings from Southwestern, Rustic, or Coastal Modern Design.
