This massive antique fish trap (creel) is from the northern part of the Philippines. The top or warp of the basket is made from a single piece of bamboo and the body out of tightly woven split bamboo wickerwork. In addition to being striking in size and craftsmanship, this piece served a practical purpose – small fish would be carried by the current and swim through the series of seven holes with the loosely woven interior cone (hasang) preventing them from escaping. Despite its age, this piece is in excellent condition with structural integrity intact.

This hard to find, one-of-a-kind basket can stand alone as a sculptural element in an Industrial/Loft or Modern space. Also, for the imaginative person with a cavernous ceiling, this would look amazing as a pendant fixture with Rustic/Farmhouse, Organic Inspired, Wabi Sabi or Coastal Modern décor. Suitable for residential or commercial spaces.
