Large, square "ligao" winnowing tray. This basket tray was used to throw grain into the air and catch it while the lighter chaff blows away. Constructed of heavy split bamboo with a rattan rim in a one-over-two twill construction. The skin of the rattan is used on the inside of the tray to provide a smooth hard surface. The rim is composed of one whole rattan on top with two halves of a split rattan just below it.
Amazing patina - collected in the Philippines during the 1960’s and acquired from a decorator’s personal collection. This basket is in excellent condition and would add interest to any décor whether on a table or displayed on a wall in a grouping. Perfect for Coastal, Japandi or Wabi Sabi interior settings.
