Vintage Philippine basket of unique design and great patina. It is intricate and constructed of plaited bamboo with a base woven out of strips the same width as those that comprise the walls. The bottom bulges due to the resilience of the bamboo and is considered a ‘transitional’ design as it rises from a square base to form a round mouth.
The rim of the mouth is constructed from two different pieces of bamboo along with intricate banding around the neck in a slightly darker color. The body has a dark, rich, mahogany brown color and there are woven designs on all four 'corners' with additional patterned designs on three out of the four sides of the basket.
It would look great displayed on console table or bookshelf. This piece was purchased in the 1960s in the Philippines and has been part of a designer’s collection since that time. Display it in a variety of residential or commercial settings from Japandi, Wabi Sabi, to California Casual or Coastal Modern.
