Ethiopian Gambela 'Canoe-Shaped' Basket with Brown and Black Stripes Measuring 20.25 Inches Long by 2.75 Inches Tall

Baskets are integral to many African cultures and in Ethiopia they play both functional and decorative roles. This handmade example is from the Gambela region in the western part of the country bordering Sudan. These baskets are constructed with vine composing the central core wrapped with woven palm fronds. This canoe shaped one has a natural buff color with striped designs in brown and black. It can be used throughout the home as a decorative piece or in the kitchen to display and serve items.
