This hard-to-find vintage fish drying basket was made on Romblon in the central archipelago region of Visayas. It is constructed out of the kokolongkoy vine in a twilled or roping pattern around the edges with three slightly blackened vines used to produce subtle rows of design. In the center, the vines have been connected/knotted in a geometric web-like pattern. This piece was used as an open screen or fish drying tray and would be perfect for a serious basket collector.
Due to its delicate construction and intricate pattern, we would suggest displaying this on a wall in a residential or commercial Wabi Sabi, Organic Modern, Boho or Rustic interior setting.
Place of Origin: Romblon, Visayas Region, Philippines
Date of Manufacture: 1950s-1960s
Condition: Very Good
Wear: Consistent with age. One piece of the webbing has become separated. This does not distract from this piece's decorative appearance. Please refer to pictures.
Dimensions: 18 in. L X 17.5 in. W X 2.75 in. H
