One-of-a-kind 14th/16th Century Sukhothai glazed stoneware from central Thailand. Potters from the Ayutthaya Kingdom of Siam made vessels popular throughout Asia. This piece is an example of several fused bowls with a fish motif which were misfired and discarded in the refuse dump of a pottery workshop. Even though initially discarded, these ancient ceramic cast-offs, also known as wasters, are unique in their artistic form. This piece was purchased in Thailand in the early 1970s and could work in a variety of décor styles from Traditional, Mid-Century... to Asian-Inspired or Wabi Sabi. It is presented free-standing on a base of new black acrylic in order to give it a finished artistic look.
