Vintage Philippine Ifugao Winnowing Basket

Small square winnowing basket used to throw grain into the air and catch it while the lighter chaff blows away. Constructed of split bamboo with a rattan rim in a one-over-two twill construction. The skin of the rattan is used on the inside of the tray to provide a smooth hard surface. The rim is composed of one whole rattan on top with two halves of a split rattan just below it.

Amazing patina - collected in the Philippines during the 1960’s and acquired from a decorator’s personal collection. This basket is in excellent and would add interest to any décor whether on a table or displayed on a wall in a grouping.

Place of Origin: Ifugao, N Luzon, Philippines

Date of Manufacture: 1950s–1960s
