Traditional weaving techniques were used in combination with modern-day material to create this unique piece handcrafted by Zulu weavers from South Africa. Baskets like these are called Imbenge and are hand-woven using both bare and plastic-coated wire. This style originated when Zulu men began weaving baskets from discarded scraps of telephone wire. This fusion of past and present has enabled artisans to maintain their rich traditions while being self-sufficient through this craft.
The piece referenced in the pictures is exactly the piece you will receive. It has an intricate pattern is made of vibrantly colored recycled telephone wire that includes hues of copper, red, orange, gold and black.
