Vintage ancestral polychrome hand-carved wooden bird sculpture from the Iatmul peoples who inhabit the middle reaches of the Sepik River. The carving depicts a Sabut bird in natural pigment tones of red/terracotta, black and white. The piece is a homage to the creation myth in the Sepik River region of Papua New Guinea.
It is free-standing and would make for an impactful sculpture on a console table in a great room or entry or on an art stand in a hallway. The muted earth tone colors would also complement a wide range of interiors from Mid-Century, California Casual... to Organic Inspired or Coastal Modern Design.
