Male Baule colonial figure or colon statue. This hand-carved painted wooden piece depicts a male, possibly a doctor, in a white dashiki-style shirt and and pant suit. This figure is carved in a naive, folk art style and does not have ritual significance. Rather, it is an artistic response to the colonization and European influence in West Africa.
