BasketsIntricately woven split bamboo "butit" basket used to house locusts. A woven funnel would be held underneath a tree while it was shaken in order to dislodge the locusts. The funnel then would direct the insects into this butit basket made of rattan strips. The slats were woven with some space in between so they could remain alive until roasted and eaten.

Due to its age, scarcity, very unique shape, amazing dark colored patina and condition - this piece is perfect for a serious collector or university museum. Purchased in the 1960s in the Philippines – and has been part of a designer’s collection. Place in an interior environment from Rustic, Wabi Sabi... to Japandi or Coastal Modern.
