Chinese archaistic cast bronze ding tripod censer/incense burner. Dings (鼎) are prehistoric and ancient Chinese cauldrons standing upon legs, two fancy facing handles, and sometimes with a lid. They are one of the most important shapes used in Chinese ritual bronzes.
This reproduction is of an archaic bronze ritual food vessel shape that dates back to the Shang dynasty. The piece has an upright body of circular form and is supported on three cylindrical legs. Cast around the sides are stylized mythical animals in six relief scenes between flanges and under a key-fret band under the rim set with two upright handles.
