Contemporary hand-carved wooden doll from the Ewe People of southern Togo and Ghana. The Ewe are known for small wooden statues called "Venavi," associated with twins, whose birth is considered to be a good omen.
Typical features include oval faces with protruding eyes, black pigment on hair and feet. They stand rigid, with arms held away from their bodies, and carved hands pointing straight down.
This male doll is mounted on an acrylic base and has a warm honey-brown patina. It would be perfect in a study or office on a bookshelf or side table in any décor from Organic Modern, to Boho or Wabi Sabi.
