Antique "snail basket" made of split bamboo from the Philippines. It is intricate, very unique and constructed of plaited bamboo with a base woven out of with strips that are twice as wide as those that comprise the walls. The bottom bulges due to the resilience of the bamboo. It is considered "transitional" as it rises from a square base to a round mouth.
The piece has intricate banding around the neck in a slightly different color with the body having an amazing patina with a rich, dark, mahogany brown color. It would look great displayed on console table or bookshelf. We suggest leaving it empty so you can pick it up, look at it, and enjoy the weaver's talent. Purchased in the 1960s in the Philippines – and has been part of a designer’s collection.
