Large square "ligao" winnowing tray used as an agricultural method for separating grain from chaff. This shallow basket tray was used to throw grain into the air and catch it while the lighter chaff blows away. Constructed of heavy split rattan in a one-over-two twill construction. The skin of the rattan is used on the inside of the tray to provide a smooth, hard surface.
Collected in the Philippines during the 1960s, this basket has an excellent honey-brown patina. Display on a table or in a grouping on a wall; it would add interest to any décor whether residential, commercial or hospitality from Coastal, Organic Modern, Rustic... to Wabi Sabi or Japandi.
