Ancestral wooden figure from the Sepik River Region of New Guinea. This birdhead sculpture has carved eyes and a figural body out of ebonized hardwood. Collected on location in the 1960s and displayed on a new custom acrylic stand with square base.
Due to the size of the carving and the stand, this piece makes an impactful design statement. It would be perfect on a console table or atop its own pedestal in a variety of interiors from Mid-Century Modern, Oceanic, Boho or Tropical.
