This is a fun, signed piece by artist Ezequiel Blas from San Pedro Cajonos, a town in southwest Mexico. Ezequiel is from the Blas Family, and the artwork produced by the six brothers tend to be brightly painted pieces that include insects and sea life.
Oaxacan carvings are made from Ocote wood, hand carved, meticulously sanded and then painted with brilliant colors and intricate designs. This example is a nine-piece grasshopper composed of the body, legs and antennae. Colors used include cream, pink, red, bright orange, light purple, fuchsia, turquoise, yellow and light green.
This delicate yet impressive piece is one-of-a-kind and would work well in interior settings from Southwestern and Folk Art... to Boho and Scandinavian.
