Pair of Hand-Carved Marble Foo Dog Statues - 7.5" H X 5" L X 3" W (Each)

Pair of decorative hand-carved light-colored marble stone Foo Dog/Fu Dog statues. The pieces have an overall cream/gold hue with hints of white, green and beige coloration/striations. Each ia carved seated on a rectangular plinth in almost mirror pose with one paw raised, one on a ball and the other possibly on a cub, the face with mouth open wide and ferocious expression with bushy eyebrows and curly mane, wearing a bell around its neck.

These sculptures are representative of Chinese guardian lions "shishi" and are a traditional Chinese architectural ornament. They are designed in pairs — one is female, the other is male. The female represents "yin," and symbolically protects the people dwelling inside the home, while the male statue, representing "yang," protects the structure itself.

Perfect in an office or study on a bookshelf in a variety of settings from Traditional, Eclectic... to Chinoiserie or Maximalist.
