Square, covered box (Huop). This tightly-covered box was used to hold cooked rice and the lower part is made with the smooth skin of the bamboo on the inside with the cover/lid having skin on the outside. The rim around the base of the basket, the mouth of the basket and the sides of the cover/lid are constructed out of heavy split rattan. The basket is constructed with split bamboo in a one-over-two pattern. Absolutely amazing patina – collected in the Philippines during the 1960s and acquired from a decorator’s personal collection. This basket is in excellent condition – and would be a focal point adding interest and providing a unique storage option in any décor.
