Square covered box "huop" used to hold cooked rice. The lower part is made with the smooth skin of the bamboo on the inside with the cover/lid having the skin on the outside. The rim around the base of the basket, the mouth of the basket and the sides of the cover/lid are constructed out of heavy split rattan. The basket is constructed with split bamboo in a one-over-two woven pattern.
Collected in the Philippines during the 1960s and acquired from a decorator’s personal collection; this basket is in excellent condition and could be used for storage or a décor item. It has a caramel brown patina that would work with any interior space from Japandi, Coastal... to Wabi Sabi or Boho/Bohemian.
