Large, square winnowing tray (Ligao). This basket tray was used to throw grain into the air and catch it while the lighter chaff blows away. Constructed of heavy split bamboo with a rattan rim in a one-over-two twill construction. The skin of the rattan is used on the inside of the tray to provide a smooth hard surface. The rim is composed of one whole rattan on top with two halves of a split rattan just below it. The center of the tray is worn from use, thus making some strips 2-3 mm smaller in the center making for unusual graphic interest. Absolutely amazing patina – collected in the Philippines during the 1960s and acquired from a decorator’s personal collection. This large basket is in excellent condition – and would be a focal point adding interest to any décor.
