Striking geometric-patterned and glazed earthenware bowl made by the Shipibo-Conibo women who live along the Ucayali River, a southern tributary of the Upper Amazon in Peru. Their process of creating each piece transforms the vessels’ clay paste into a high tensile-strength composite material, allowing ceramists to create thin, coil-built vessels.
This piece is a shallow bowl with a wide outer rim with scallop designs and a narrow inner rim. The center interior of the bowl has a dark orange color with spaced geometric designs and a head with what appears to be a headdress. The exterior of the bowl features a dark orange color with black and white geometric designs.
The face on the interior symbolizes the Shipibo-Conibo Shamanism religion. Shamans serve as intermediaries between the physical and spiritual realms, guiding their community through rituals and healing ceremonies.
This would be a great stand-alone piece for any interior setting from Southwestern, Eclectic... to California Casual or Coastal Modern. Combine it with our other offerings to build an indigenous pottery collection. Custom acrylic display stand included.
